Introduction to a Golfer

Hello, My name is Blaine Hale and I am a junior here at the University of Oklahoma. I am from Dallas, TX and have lived there my whole life. I am a business major here but am also on the OU golf team. I've been playing golf my whole life and it has always been a dream to play in college. A couple of my biggest accomplishments last year included a season award of being a national All-American in golf but also winning the national championship in Chicago at the end of the year. I will add a picture of the championship below. It was a dream come true and the reason I came to Oklahoma in the first place. I basically revolve my life around my school and my friends as all my teammates are my brothers to me. I hope to one day play golf on the PGA tour but if that doesn't work out I would love to move back to Dallas. A few of my goals to finish out my college career will include another year of being an All-American but also to be an academic All-American. I am mostly a people person and love to just be around others at all times. I don't have any pets but my roommate has a dog that I have basically adopted for myself. I can't make much food other than popcorn and a PB&J but I normally eat out anyway. I don't really have any hobbies other than playing golf. If I could have one day to do whatever I wanted I would fly out to Georgia to play Augusta National with some friends of mine as that has always been a dream of mine. I didn't do a lot this summer other than travel to a couple places for tournaments but I will get to go to a lot of cool places this semester on our traveling schedule for the golf team. We will get to fly around the country and go to a lot of cool places. I am excited for the year and for this class.

  1. Aha, I should have guessed from that favorite places post that you are on the golf team, Blaine! Fabulous! And CONGRATULATIONS on the championship from last year. Grant was in this class last year (or the year before? I don't remember for sure), and there was a picture of Grant with the trophy that I saw on Twitter when you guys brought the trophy back to Norman. It was so fun to feel connected to the golf team thanks to him! So please say hi to Grant from me, and I hope you will have fun with the class. I remember Grant did a fabulous story about a rakshasa (demon) that was ambushing golfers on the Jimmie Austin course. Maybe you will do some golf-themed stories too. :-)

  2. Hey Blaine!

My name is Leigh, and I hope we will stay in contact throughout the semester! That is AWESOME that you are on the OU golf team; I actually know Brad Dalke (we are from the same area in North Texas). Also, Dallas, and the whole Metroplex area, is one of my favorite places, and my goal for my adult life is to find a great job somewhere down there. I'm a junior as well, and its actually on my bucket list to go to the Masters or watch a tournament on Augusta National. My brother and dad are huge golfers (my brother played in a few tournaments with Brad), so we definitely have a few things in common! Have a great semester!

  3. Hi Blaine! That's so cool that you're a golfer. There was a golfer in my Spanish class my junior year. For some reason, I remember that vividly. It sounds like you're great at it! I say, keep aiming for the PGA. Shoot for the stars! And please, tell your dog that he or she is a good boy or girl for me. And don't forget the belly rubs.

  4. Hello Blaine! Congratulations on the win last year! I wish you and your team many more! I thought about minoring in business at one time it would be a lot on my plate as a science major so I decided not to but I think business degrees are great and there will always be businesses to manage. I think it is cool that you play golf because I am terrible at it unfortunately and I found out I was at my own birthday party at TopGolf. It took me about 20 times before I could even hit the ball. Also, if you like PB&J you try Nutella and Jelly sandwiches ! They are really good! Good luck in Golf.

  5. Hey Blaine.
That's very impressive to see what you have accomplished in your golfing career. It is nice to read about your aspirations for the future with golf, and is genuinely refreshing to see that you are doing something that you love. I can imagine that it is very fun to travel to the tournaments and meet players that are as skilled as you are and have the same love for the game. I wish you the best of luck with your future.

  6. Hi, Blaine!

Oh, wow, you are definitely passionate about golf! To be able to do what you love and accomplish so much from it: it is what so many of us strive to do, and it is so great that you did and still do! I look forward to seeing what else you can accomplish this semester!

  7. Hey Blaine,

Those gold accomplishments are really impressive! I need to take some lessons from you or something, because golf is easily my worst sport. My short game is great, but my hips are busted up so my drive is pathetic (think <200yds). I hope you make it to the PGA tour, because I have a lot of respect for those guys and how consistently they can play under extreme pressure.

Looking forward to seeing more posts from you!

  8. Hey Blaine,

That's great that you have achieved so much from golfing. It's always nice to see people pursuing something they are really passionate about. It's nice to travel for tournaments as you can go explore many different cities during your spare time. PGA tour sounds exciting, I don't really know much about golf tournaments but hope you get the spot. Good luck for future! I look forward to reading stories from you!

  9. Hi Blaine!

I am also from Dallas, well technically the McKinney area! Your success golfing is incredible! I golf occasionally with my dad or guy friends, but clearly nothing like you! I have gone to the Master's before and to Pebble Beach to watch before though because my friend's father is a golf announcer. Good luck this year in your academics and in golf!

  10. Hi Blaine! That is so cool that you are on the golf team. I love to golf but I am extremely average on the course. I watched you and the team win the NCAA championship this past year and that was awesome. I would love to pay Augusta also but honestly I am nowhere near good enough to even break 100 there. I hope to be watching you on the tour one day! Thanks for sharing.

  11. Hi Blaine!

Congratulations on being names an All American and winning a National Championship. Those are very prestigious awards, and I can only imagine the time and effort you have devoted to mastering your craft. I also think that it is great that you want to become an Academic All American. That would round out a resume` quite nicely if you ever move away from golf.

Good luck on the rest of the semester!

  12. Hi Blaine!

I think it's so cool that you're on the golf team here at OU. I've always wanted to learn how to golf, but never have found the time. The closest I've gotten to playing are the few times I've been to top golf, and I'm under no impression that those are even close to the same thing!

I wish you the best of luck with your golf career and with the rest of this semester! :)

  13. Hey Blaine!
Congratulations on all of your accomplishments, especially in golf! I'm really impressed, I've always wished I could be good at golf, but the truth is I'm so awful. I'm from North Texas as well, and been there my whole life!
Also, I bet it's a lot of work to keep up with playing sports for the University and excel in school work. Congrats to you and good luck to you the rest of the semester and in your future!

  14. Hey Blaine! It's nice to see other juniors around here! A lot of the other kids in class are seniors.....
I think it's so great that you've found a hobby that interests you AND that you're really good at! It's very difficult to find that happy medium for some.
I enjoy golfing, but I'm not very good at it (except on Wii Sports). I much prefer mini golf. I'm curious- since you're a serious golfer, do you also enjoy mini golf? Or is that child's play for you? :) Either way, I'm glad you're having fun out there! Enjoy these last two years!

  15. Hi Blaine!

It’s so cool that you are a golfer here at OU! I have tried to golf so many times and I really have never gotten the hang of it. My family loves to golf but it’s just not my thing. But it is really great that you were able to accomplish your dream of playing in college. Accomplishing dreams this early in life must feel great!

  16. Hi Blaine! I can't believe I haven't visited your page just yet. I've read your storybook, which was really neat, but surprisingly, nothing else. That's awesome that you made All-American last year. I don't know much about golf, but I learned a bit from my uncles that live in Chicago, because they love golf too. I've gone to the driving range once before and attempted a swing at a golf ball, but couldn't quite get the right angle, grip and swing. It was fun to say the least! I hope you can reach your goal and future accomplishments! Good luck this semester and the years to come!

  17. Hi, Blaine! I'm a fellow Dallas person, too, and I always love running into people from that area - I'm from Coppell. One of my best friends plays golf, so I think it's super cool that you play for our team. I really respect the fact that you aim to be part of the PGA tour in the future. I wish you best of luck in your endeavors, and hope you have a great year!

  18. Hey Blaine! Congratulations on your national championship! That is such an amazing accomplishment! I'm not the best at sports so I find it really cool when other people are out there winning things. I also think it's awesome that you plan on being a part of the PGA tour and that you seem like you're truly following your dreams. Good luck with everything in the future! Can't wait to read what you write about in this class :)

  19. Blaine, I get that you like golf but what about when it rains? I guess, being a bussiness major means you need to know how to play golf pretty well- actually one of my greatest fears is that I will need to go golfing for a business deal and I will be so bad at it it will be embarassing. Good luck with the semester and this very interesting class.

  20. Hey Blaine!
I was shocked to find someone's blog that I hadn't commented on this late into semester! I think it's really cool that you are so passionate about golfing and your teammates. That kind of passion is something I love to see in the people I meet. Good luck!
