Story Week 13: The final play

It was the final play of the national championship and it was going to come down between two people. Alabama was known for having the biggest man in college football standing at a full 6'11 305 pounds but all muscle. He played outside defensive end and would wreck havoc whenever he was on the field. He had been a thorn in Oklahoma's side all night but they had somehow managed to keep the game close through great passing and running away from him. It was fourth and goal from the five yard line and it was going to won or lost on this play. The Sooners were trying to find a play that ran away from the big man but when they saw the defense that Alabama put out they were stacking the other side of the field. The Oklahoma quarterback called a time out because he knew they stood no chance with the play that was called. Once on the sideline the Oklahoma coach was thinking of a play when their star running back stepped up. He said that he wanted the ball and would run full on toward the big man and take him down. While a lot of the guys on the team thought this play would never work the Oklahoma head coach had faith in his star running back. He called the play so that the running back would get a pitch running to the left side and it would just be one on one with the big man. The center snapped the ball to the quarter back and sent the pitch sailing out to the left for the running back. The big man read the play just as they had hopped and started down the goal line to make the game winning stop. The running back had his plan all along that once they met up he knew the big man would lower his head and right at that moment he would make his move. The running back turned the corner and got to the 1 yard line when he say the big man lowering his head to make the tackle. The running back sees him lower his head and at that moment jumps as high as he can and hurdles the big man to fall into the end zone for the game winning touchdown.

Authors note: In this story I talked about Kumbhakarna, the big giant, and how he had to fight Rama after Ravana couldn't defeat Rama. Kumbharkarna is the biggest man in the world and was un beatable until Rama did. The big man is Kumbharkarna and Rama is the Oklahoma running back.

I love OU football so I definitely appreciated this story. You did a great job of keeping the story fast paced to keep the reader feeling the way anyone watching a nerve wracking moment like this one would! I also loved that when reading this story I could actually see OU doing something like this. Who knows, maybe you just called the game winning play for this years natty! #WeWantBama

    Great job :)

I think it is cool that you decided to tell a story that was a bit more relatable to college students than the original version. Relating it to something more familiar really helped. Besides for that, i thought it was a great retelling considering how different the two subjects you blended were.

  3. Hey Blaine,

What beast story we have here. Love reading football stories, but when it's about the Sooners winning? Even better. We better go to LA and rip Georgia to shreds. Then onto the natty and blowout Saban. Back to your story, great job you should become an author later in life.

  4. Football stories are always interesting to me, as I don't really watch it or know what's going on half the time. Still, I was able to understand what was going on in the story, which connotes good descriptions. There were a few minor spelling mistakes, but that's easily fixable. I think for ease of understanding, naming your characters would be a good addition, whether they're made up or the original names from the source material.
